Caroline Street - the absence of something

Neil Armstrong - 2019

Length 17:30

FAV IT

A video featuring artist Neil Armstrong and psychotherapist David Edwards heard discussing a flat they used to share in the 70s - which is now demolished. Their conversation meanders across a landscape of socio political concerns whilst they make monoprints as a means of aiding 'automatic' recall. This is a technique Neil explored at that time to document ongoing diaristic ideas.

The video is part of a larger collaborative installation, taking the absence of something (the flat in Newcastle upon Tyne) as the entry to a re-imagining of the past which, in turn, informs the present.

Neil Armstrong's photo series, taken at the same location, featured in the first edition of SCULPTORVOX, and forms part of the Caroline Street installation which was first shown at OVADA gallery in Oxford in 2019.
