/EXO/ is a stop motion video work shot whilst Absalom was on an exchange programme in Jerusalem. Absalom's practice is an investigation into the iconography, mythology and ritual of Judeo-Christian belief and the effect they have had upon collective imaginings. Ideas of suffering and the grotesque are prominent within religion and have certainly impacted modern film, particularly 20th century cinema and horror. The artist was doing theological reading in preparation for her dissertation prior to making this film, after an evening of intense insect bites, the artist dreamt of stigmata and made this work in response.
