Berto Herrera, a Black-Hispanic artist and former U.S. military member now based in Germany, brings a unique perspective to his art, exploring identity, power, and technology. Since his first exhibition in 2006, Herrera has focused on exposing and challenging subtle cultural biases that shape societal dynamics. His training at Parsons and early involvement in Los Angeles’s influential art collective Box Eight helped cement his role in the art scene, where he collaborated with figures like Ben Cope and Peter Gurnz.
After a decade working as an art director at Adidas, Herrera returned to fine art, launching his acclaimed series What Is Home? globally. His work—across painting, photography, and collage—examines themes of techno-feudalism and surveillance, prompting audiences to consider the deeper forces governing modern life. By intertwining design aesthetics with his social critique, Herrera challenges viewers to question and dismantle the structures perpetuating inequality and control
